Greetings Friends,

I am delighted to share a warm welcome to all of you as we return from the heat and diversions of summer, back into the comfort and routine of autumn and of our church lives.

I am eager to reconnect again with you, and to meet new visitors and friends who have been welcomed by our vibrant faith community over the past few months. In these challenging times, finding a community of people of shared values and principles can be vital to our sense of belonging.
Our UUA President, Rev. Dr. Sofia Betancourt, writes: “We know that our ministries unfold in challenging and complex times.  And yet, our tradition teaches that love’s reach is expansive enough to include everyone, that no one is excluded from worth and dignity, and that this love has the power to overcome the fear that silences and stills us.”

It is for us, then, to continue to anchor into this expansive love, the core of our faith.

Over this year, we will explore deeper aspects of what it means to be Unitarian Universalist within the complexity and divisiveness that surrounds us. We are being invited into a larger discussion of all the ways we might “meet this moment”.
A framework launched at our national General Assembly in June is being shared into the work and lives of congregational communities, and is rooted in three foundational questions:

What is the Moment We are In?

What are the Most Urgent and Important Needs of this Moment?
What do our UU Values Call us to do In Response to this Moment?

I will share more with you on Sunday, and as we move through the year.

On Sunday, we will also return to routine with our Water Ceremony, so remember to bring a small amount of water with you – water that symbolizes cherished memories from the summer, or water that represents what helps you feel welcome and rooted, or water that embodies the contributions you hope to bring to the church this year.
If you are new and this is unfamiliar to you, it’s okay. We will guide you and invite your sharing to whatever level you feel comfortable.
