Greetings Friends,
It’s been exciting to have some recent warm weather, hinting of Spring just around the corner – unfortunately there will still be a bit more snow before that happens.
Exciting things are also happening at Unitarian Universalist Church of Manchester! We will be kicking off our Pledge Drive on Sunday, our Music Sunday will be in a couple of weeks ( March 22), and for those following the progress of our capital fundraising to address building maintenance needs, we submitted our second grant application this week! Thank you to the hard work of many people: researchers and fact finders and editors, those discerning the needs, those calculating the numbers, and most especially Alice Veenstra for her experience and guidance in leading us through the process!
As I mentioned on Sunday, we are also excited for Melanie for Konky’s Creative Kitchen to be our first commissary kitchen renter!
The partnership with Melanie will be an important step for UU Manchester to open our building for more earning opportunities and engagement with the greater Manchester community. It will also mean some changes for us as church members, most noticeably for Sunday morning fellowship time.
We must treat our kitchen as a professional restaurant kitchen, even when Melanie is not working there, even when it’s “just for us”. Although Melanie’s food won’t be served in our building, it IS STILL a restaurant kitchen. We must follow the same rules or 1) we will cause problems for Melanie’s Food Service License, and 2) we will cause problems for our own kitchen license, which could damage our accessibility to future rentals.
For those of us who may have worked in fast food or other dining restaurants at some point, we might be able to reach back in our memories. For a refresher and for those who don’t have kitchen work history, Melanie has offered to host a couple of Sunday morning meetings, following coffee hour, to walk through the kitchen floorplan and the necessary practices. I’m working on scheduling those with Hospitality Volunteers. If anyone not a volunteer is interested, let me know and I’ll include you in the planning!
Thank you for your support and participation! See you in church!!
In faith,
Rev. Kali
