DECEMBER EDITION OF THE SOCIAL JUSTICE MINUTE
This is your place to find all our recent projects and happenings, receive updates on Share the Plate information, and find out how you can volunteer your time or resources to help us with social justice and climate action in our church, community and the wider world.
UU Manchester is collecting socks and gloves for the homeless and in-need community of Manchester.
A collection box is placed on the altar alongside the holiday tree for your donated items. New adult and child-size socks and gloves are sought. The contents of the box will be distributed to shelters and on the street by Shepherd’s Way, which works to feed and clothe the homeless in our city.
Let’s all help keep fellow citizens warm! The collection drive will continue all winter, or longer. Questions or comments can be directed to Reverend Kali or Parker Prescott.
Social Responsibility’s Holiday Faire Gift Basket
The committee members contributed items for a gift basket, including environmentally friendly cleaning products and bags for produce, organic wine, a gift card to A1 Market, materials for making protests signs, and the books On Tyranny (illustrated) and On Freedom by Timothy Snyder.
Meet your Social Responsibility Committee members:
Marge Goudreault, Chair, Liz Alcauskas, Ellen Belanger, Curt Smith, Edna White, Amy Hanmer, Parker Prescott, Rick Glatz, Marlena Bourque, Malia Till, Jackie Spenard, and Rev. Kali Fyre.
If you are interested in learning more about the committee, talk to any one of us or stop in for one of our meetings, which occur the second Sunday of every month at 11:30 in the lounge.
Food Insecurity in our Community
Parker Prescott continues to spearhead an effort to join with local agencies to provide breakfast to members of the homeless community. If you are interested in working on this in some capacity, whether it is food prep in our kitchen, seeking donations of food/supplies, or just being involved with the brainstorming group, please talk to him or email him at pprescott2@comcaset.net
Green Team Surveys
The Green Team will soon be sending out surveys for homeowners and renters to answer questions about the level of greenness of their living situations. Watch for that soon.
Share the Plate Survey
We will be sending out a survey in mid-January so we can select the Share the Plate recipients for the months of March through August. If you have any local agencies that you would like to nominate, please get them to Marge Goudreault (24wins@comcast.net) by 1/9/2026.
Freedom Fair
Rick Glatz is spearheading the organization of a “Freedom Fair” to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary. The date will be 6/6/2026. Rick will be putting together an initial planning meeting in early January. If you are interested in being involved in this in any way, let Rick know, at rglatz@live.com.
