Save The Date : February 7, 2022 | Vocalist & Berklee School Assistant Professor Taylor O’Donnell Performing @ UNH

I’ve previously written in this space about the amazing jazz programs presented several times a year at the UNH Main Campus in Durham.  Next up is the vocalist and Berklee School assistant professor Taylor O’Donnell on February 7th (https://cola.unh.edu/calendar-event/67475). Don’t miss it!

And now, through the magic of the Internet, you can enjoy great jazz performances in the comfort of your own home – courtesy of jazz pianist Emmet Cohen and the other members of his trio:  Russell Hall on bass and Kyle Poole on drums.  The group performs live – on Facebook – most Monday evenings from Emmet’s living room in upper Manhattan.  Sponsored by Jazz Cruise, and accepting donations from viewers, the group also features a guest on sax, trumpet or guitar (or vocals).  https://www.facebook.com/emmet.jazzpiano

And if you have missed the over 80 performances to date, many are available on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/PSrL66ZOdlI.

A recent favorite of mine aired on December 8th (https://youtu.be/Lg4hyg4Uwmk) with Alexa Tarantino on alto sax and Tatum Greenblatt on trumpet.  Their rendition of the late trumpeter Lee Morgan’s “Ceora” and Alexa’s take on “Old Folks” are hauntingly beautiful.

Past concerts have featured jazz greats Christian McBride (bass) (https://youtu.be/IzOfzEAQ9rA), Sean Jones (trumpet) (https://youtu.be/OTL3LkKueho), Nicholas Payton (trumpet) (https://youtu.be/7yKGkDHp5oc) and Russell Malone (guitar) (https://youtu.be/Rdcgz0Qwquo).  Emmet’s group plays with great enthusiasm and respect for their musical forbears.  I heartily recommend these weekly concerts and would love to know what you think of them.  That’s all for now.  Enjoy!
