Racial Unity Team Hosts 2024 Art & Poetry Challenge for New Hampshire Residents of All Ages
The Art & Poetry Challenge – the living, breathing proof of the power of the arts – is an annual challenge hosted by the Racial Unity Team in New Hampshire. A total of $6,000 in first, second, and third-place prizes will be awarded to winners in elementary, middle school, high school and adult categories in both art and poetry.
All New Hampshire residents are invited to submit original poems or visual works of art inspired by this year’s theme: “BELONGING.” Children and adults are asked to consider “what does it feel like to belong or…not belong?” and express their thoughts in an original poem or artwork.
Artistic pursuits allow for expression of emotions and opinions in a manner that touches the hearts and minds of others. The Racial Unity Team has found that through this annual competition, challenging topics are brought forward and ideas for healing and progress are shared in meaningful and peaceful ways. Both the challenge participants and all who visit the traveling exhibition are impacted by the experience.
Teachers and parents are urged to review the extensive resources available on the Racial Unity Team website and use the materials to discuss the theme and encourage their students to participate.
The deadline for submissions is August 31, 2024, and winners will be announced in October. The work of all participants will travel across New Hampshire to be exhibited in local libraries and art galleries and will be featured on the Racial Unity Team website in a “virtual gallery”.
